Story

After graduating from BA in Fashion Design at Central St Martins, Steven went on to work at design houses including Viktor & Rolf and Stella McCartney before establishing his own label in 2012.

His innovative and quirky collection of textiles which celebrates both the awkward and the surreal, captured the attention of Yohji Yamamoto, who awarded him the inaugural Chloe award at the 2012 Hyères Festival. With sponsorship from Mercedes-Benz, he then went on to present this collection in Berlin during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, where he received international recognition for his self-confident and endearing take on the nerd.

Steven Tai continues to accumulate a strong following, showcasing at London Fashion Week, with his AW18 collection with ILMxLAB, Lucasfilm’s immersive entertainment division and the Fashion Innovation Agency garnering recognition from the press.

“The Pioneer Programme has for me brought light to many aspects of brand building that are often overlooked when starting a label from a creative viewpoint. From cashflow and logistics to social media and customer relations, the one-on-one mentoring highlights all crucial areas that an emerging brand needs to know. More importantly it gave me the knowledge to know how to tackle each of these areas professionally within the industry standards.” Steven Tai
